What made you decide you wanted to be a dentist? I was shadowing a general dentist as a college student when one day a young boy walked into the office and burst into tears. He was having a hard time explaining what was bothering him, but did manage to say that he was being bullied for his smile. He held my hand throughout his treatment session, and once finished I saw the tears fade as he smiled. At that moment, I reflected on my own experiences maintaining oral health and the hardships I myself had to endure growing up. That young boy was my inspiration, and since then I knew I could make a difference in other people’s lives through dentistry!

Interesting fact about me: I’ve been an amateur impressionist since I was a teenager. Most of my classmates know me for the voice of “Billy”, but I can also mimic voices of several celebrities and cartoon characters. Rocky Balboa, Bugs Bunny, Elvis, Batman, and Yoda, just to name a few. I usually am shy about it and only voice myself when I’m working with kids. Feel free to ask me about it, I’ll gladly put on a show, might just leave a great ‘impression’!

Favorite dental procedure: Class I-VI composite restorations! These procedures taught me that dentistry is far beyond what most people think as “drill and fill” work. Instead, I find it more of an opportunity to combine my conceptual knowledge, imagination, perspective, and manual dexterity skills to provide preventative and restorative care to patients. I also find it extremely exciting to manipulate composite, because so many factors are involved that no two cases are ever exactly the same!

Where can you find me outside of school: I’m usually out fishing, hiking, go-karting, or restaurant hopping.

Favorite place to eat in SLC: If I’d say I have a favorite spot, I’d be lying, but Penny Anne’s Café, Rodizio Grill, and Stoneground Kitchen are definitely at the top of the list!

What do you see yourself doing in five years? I see myself either being part of a cosmetic group in New York City and spending my free time traveling the world as a volunteer dentist providing global dental relief, or partaking in one of the several OMFS programs across the country.

What is your favorite ASDA event? Cuspid Cup!
